Slinging Some Comics in Lakewood

Last weekend was Genghis Con in scenic Lakewood, Ohio and I went there to sell some comics and become a millionaire. Above you can see the sweet show space that was on the second floor of an old warehouse called the Lake Erie Building.

My pal Nate McDonough was there…

As were the fellas from Cowboy House. Here we see Fred Frances and Mike Madsen wondering where their cohort Jeff Gibbons wandered off to this time (probably to score some crack in the parking lot).

Here’s me with a sweet old car that was just hanging out there.

And here’s a shot of my table and neighbors. On the Left is Joe Kuth and that’s John Bailey on the right. Talked with both about music for awhile during the show. Nice guys and swell cartoonists too.

Had a good time hanging out at the show and traveling with my pal Eric. So much great artwork and awesome cartoonists in one place. Looking forward to next year’s show!

Fantastic Four #9 Project

After nine years of commissioning cartoonists from all over North America to recreate a page from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four #9… it is finished!

Each page is redrawn by a different artist who put their own take on the original and I couldn’t be happier with the result. It’s truly a thing to behold! Just check out the beautiful cover by Nate Mcdonough!

Interior artists include Eric Shonborn, Avery Wynings, Chris Hoium, Christopher Mundy, Justin Wasson, Jeff Potter, Kevin Harris, Pat Kain, Kurt Dinse, Carrie McNinch, Jeffrey Brown, Noah Van Sciver, Jim Woodring, Anthony Vukojevich, Chester Brown, James Kochalka, Tom Williams, Nate Powell, Ron Rege jr, Dustin Harbin, Josue Menjivar and Brandon Graham!

It isn’t for sale, but if you stop by my table at S.P.A.C.E. (ths Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo) on July 11th or 12th in Columbus I’d be happy to give you a free copy.

Six of the artists will be attending the show so you could totally get your copy autographed!

For more info on S.P.A.C.E. check out the convention website here.

Now that it’s finally on dvd, my friends Eric and Bambi are watching every episode of the 1960’s Batman tv series and reviewing it on a brand new podcast called ‘Atomic Batteries To Power!’

Eric is a longtime fan of the show and Bambi is watching them for the first time ever!

If you like Batman and you like fun, you should take a listen by clicking on the word Batusi below.

This is a character created by Rob Liefeld, drawn by Eric Shonborn and colored by me.

This was super fun for me to do for two reasons. First because I sincerely love Liefeld’s character designs and second because this is the first time I’ve colored a piece of Eric’s art (he’s colored plenty of mine).

Check out more of Eric’s sweet ink and (occasionally) colored pixels here.

The Veggie Dog Saturn Special

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Almost a year in the making this is without a doubt the best issue of Veggie Dog Saturn! Features 8 collaborative stories by myself and such mini-comics giants as Kurt Dinse, Joe Grunenwald, Chris Hoium, Pat Kain, Jason Martin, Carrie McNinch, Brian John Mitchell and Eric Shonborn! As if that wasn’t enough there’s an amazing wraparound cover featuring the sweet sweet artwork of Jeff Potter and the coloring prowess of Wheeler Hall!

These little treasures retail for a mere $3 and will be available at SPACE this weekend in Columbus, Ohio as well as at Mavericks Cards and Comics in Kettering, Ohio. Or you could simply send the three bucks (postpaid) directly to me at Buyer Beware Comics po box 20083 Dayton, Oh. 45420 (or via paypal at veggiedogsaturn@gmail.com).

Easily the most exciting comic project I’ve ever been involved with featuring an insanely diverse mix of some of my absolute favorite mini-comics artists of all time. If you only ever buy one comic from me this is the one. I’ll die a happy man because of this thing!
