New World

This is my take on Stella from a great comic book called New World. Stella is a cop in a version of the Earth where the U.S. has just endured a second Civil War. Cops are celebrities on tv with the viewing public deciding by text vote whether or not they show mercy or cruelty to those whom they arrest.

It sounds bleak but it’s also fun and sexy and surreal. Like I said, great book.

Melvins Poster

This three color screen printed poster is limited to 69 copies (half of which were hopefully sold last night at the Melvins show in Fargo).

It measures 11″ x 17″ and each one is signed and hand numbered by myself. They are available for purchase for $25 shipped to anywhere in the United States. Send payment via paypal to veggiedogsaturn@gmail.com and please include a shipping address in the notes section of the payment.

I will post “Sold Out” below the image once they’re gone so as of now I still have copies for sale.

The idea for the poster popped into my brain one night while lying in bed next to my sleeping wife. After I drew the lettering and shit chickens, my ten year old son helped sharpie in the black areas. Next I made separate color files in photoshop and took it to my friend Poppy who has a screen printing business here in Dayton. I watched him do all two hundred seven hand pulls of ink to make this thing come alive! Poppy is the best and I can’t thank him enough for his tireless efforts to make my design into such a sweet poster.

The Melvins are pretty much my favorite living humans producing artwork of any kind here on planet Earth so when my design was accepted to be one of their official gig posters I was pretty darned pleased. Thanks to the band and Justin McNeal at Secret Serpents for all the help.

Samson #1

Samson #1 by writer/artist Don Stephenson will be hitting the shelves in June. Don asked me to color the cover and the above is the result. I love Don’s artwork and it was really fun to color. Be sure to check it out next month! For further info about this and other great Sparkle Comics publications click here.

Defenders of the Planets #1 Original Ending

Defenders of the Planets #1 was originally intended to be a meditation on the surreal and metaphysical. Matt Brassfield and I have long been interested in debating philosophical themes, particularly the nature of what is or isn’t “real”.

Many a long night we have spent drinking wine and pontificating upon the likelihood of our being merely a thought in the imagination of a being not yet comprehended by our kind.

It is a distinct possibility that our very lives are not actions of our own instigation, but solely the commands of an unseen force.

But in the interest of public approval and to prevent an uprising of the proletariat, the higher-ups at Sparkle Comics insisted we water down the concepts for easier consumption.

Now the comic is little more than a distraction, a temporary musing on this long bus ride that is life.
So, here for the first time is the uncensored ending to Defenders of the Planets issue one.

It is my sincere hope that the few of you who view this page will be inspired to take control of your own lives for the first time and be complacent no more.
Okay, I think that’s it…

Also, be sure to check out issue two coming this August from Sparkle Comics.
