I’ve become addicted to a new television show called Boardwalk Empire. In case you’re unfamiliar it’s the story of Atlantic City at the beginning of prohibition. It stars Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald and a ton of other super talented people like Michael Shannon who is depicted here as Federal Agent Nelson Van Alden of the Bureau of Prohibition (one of my favorite characters from the series).
I believe they’re on season four right now but I’m watching it on dvds I get from the library and am only in the middle of season two as of this post (so no spoilers please!) but am pretty much hooked. Check it out if you don’t mind violence, dirty language and full frontal nudity (all in service of a good yarn of course).

Sorry, Jason, but I’m inundated with so much bathtub gin, violence, dirty language and full frontal nudity at work that I need a break from it all by the time I get home, so I doubt I’ll ever watch the show. Besides, everybody but you knows the series ended with it all being a dream as Nelson Van Alden wakes up in bed with Suzanne Pleshette and Larry Hagman. However, the cryptic images bordering the character have certainly whetted my interest, especially the belt. Is it a money belt?
As always, another great piece. Do you use a particular type paper? I never notice any bleeding or smearing with your fine line work.
It’s actually not a money belt. And it’s significance is of a much darker nature (that I’ll leave as a mystery in case you ever find yourself with a lack of workplace gin and genitals).
I actually drew this on plain ole printer paper. I believe it’s more a testament to the wonderful pens I use that the lines didn’t bleed.
Staedtler Pigment Liners are without a doubt the best drawing pen I’ve ever used in my life and is pretty much all I use these days. I did recently fool around with the Rapidographs my lovely ladyfriend gave to me last Christmas and they’re really nice too.
Is it an auto-erotic asphyxiation belt? Cuz if it’s not, I’m out.
Also, I really like my Copic multiliners, but the Staedtlers are nice. But my Copics need refills soon.
You guys are really curious about the belt, huh? Well, I haven’t seen season three yet so he may go there… but so far it has only been used to punish himself.
Was not aware Michael Shannon was actually in this show. He’s great. I hope he doesn’t get his neck snapped.
