Measuring in at 24″ by 32″ this is the biggest drawing I’ve ever done. It’s a one page silent story that I did for a robot themed art show a couple of years ago. I had been re-reading Chris Ware’s Acme Novelty Library around that time and this strip is sort of my homage to the amazing one page silent stories found in the early issues of Acme. In fact the ocenside market depicted in the opening panel is named “Frank’s” after Mr. Ware whose full name is actually Franklin Christenson Ware.
Also, if the greytones look kind of weird it’s because the drawing has been in the basement for awhile now and the zip-a-tone I used is starting to peel off. If only someone would invent some sort of digital method of adding greytones to artwork so cartoonists the world over would no longer have to go through the painstaking work of precisely cutting and placing those zip-a-tone films on their artwork. But alas I know of no such technology on the horizon. Well, time to go cut down the hawthorn branches in the backyard so I can make some more ink! Toodles!
Technically, it’s just a bunch of tiny drawings, so not the biggest drawing you’ve ever done. You suck! I’m the internet!
Ooops! This thing had to be scanned in in chunks and patched together in photoshop… and I just noticed that I switched panels 23 and 24 when I put it together. Maybe I’ll fix it someday.
