Bill Everett Daredevil Homage

Sunday, June 30th, 2019

Another tribute to the great Bill Everett. This one was fun to draw because of the cartoonish thugs with their campy dialogue. I have also always been partial to DD’s original costume.

By the way, this one was done just for fun but should you be interested in having me recreate any comic book page in my style I would be happy to do so for a reasonable price.

Sub-Mariner

A comic collection came into the shop where I work recently that contained a low grade copy of Marvel’s Fantasy Masterpieces #11.

The book was too rough to sell (there was a Band-Aid stuck to one of the interior pages that had probably been stuck there since the book came out in 1966) so I ripped out this awesome page from the Namor story and brought it home to redraw.

The original (pictured below) from Sub-Mariner Comics #34 was written and drawn in 1954 by Bill Everett and is a beautifully laid out page with some snappy Namor dialogue. Bill Everett was amazing. In addition to creating Namor Everett worked in comics for a number of publishers including Atlas/Marvel doing hero and horror books from the late 1930’s until he died in 1973. Check him out if you’re not familiar.

This is a recreation I did of a pre-code horror comic cover by the mighty Bill Everett. Have a spooky holiday, everyone!
