After We Shot the Grizzly
This new mini-comic is my adaptation of one of my favorite songs by The Handsome Family. The words are the lyrics to the song of the same title from their Last Days of Wonder LP (with songs about Nikola Tesla, bowling alley bars, ghosts and falling in love with strangers at airports it is a great record start to finish).
In case you’re unfamiliar, The Handsome Family is Brett and Rennie Sparks. Rennie writes the lyrics, Brett writes the music and they both sing and play.
So, last year I wrote to Rennie Sparks to ask her permission to do this comic and to my delight she responded, “Go for it!” so off I went and did it!
Now it’s done and is $3 postpaid to anywhere in North America. Send well concealed cash to the address at the bottom of this page for this thirty page black and white mini-comic with full color cover.
Also, for some truly great music that some describe as American Folk or Country Gothic (I just call it awesome!) visit the Handsome Family’s website here.
UPDATE:
So, I just found out this wasn’t a new idea. A cartoonist from the UK by the name of Dan Berry already did it… and did it much better. I guess it’s true “There’s nothing new under the sun.”
Check out an example of Dan’s fantastic work here.

Why I Love Yellow Springs
This is an actual conversation I overheard while Kathleen and I were shopping at my favorite bookstore in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Pickerington Comics Jam
Yesterday some of us exhibiting at the comics show at the Pickerington library did this jam comic (of which I did the opening panel). I’m not sure who all contributed as it was passed around the room but it ended with Stephen Hines finishing it up!
Fun was had! Comics were drawn! Good times!

May The 4th Be With You!
To celebrate Star Wars Day I figured I’d share this color pencil drawing I did in my grief art therapy group at Hospice of Dayton.
The idea was to bring a photo of yourself and your loved one to recreate as a drawing. As I was unable to find the photo of Doogie and I that I was looking for, I just decided to draw us as Han and Chewy.
