Camp Pathways 2015

This past weekend was one of the best weekends I’ve had in decades. I spent it at Camp Joy volunteering as a buddy for grieving teens through Hospice of Dayton’s Camp Pathways program and it couldn’t have been better!

I met so many awesome people this weekend. Even though some had lost someone very close to them as recently as two weeks ago all were eager to make connections and learn to cope with their particular loss.

It rained most of the time we were there but it didn’t put a damper on anyone’s attitude. Fun was had by all!

We also all got the chance to open up about our losses. Some of you may know that it’s coming up on exactly one year since I lost a good friend and it helped me to be with others who can empathize.

Above are some of the sketches I was able to do between our numerous activities (which included swimming, canoeing, fishing, high ropes walking, sketch comedy, various indoor sports, eating, walking, singing, hugging and crying).

If you or anyone you know have a grieving child (from ages 7 through 17) that you think could benefit from some outside support among those who may be able to relate to their situation, I highly recommend this amazing program!

I’m already looking forward to volunteering there next year.

Great sketches, and I’m glad you got that opportunity and were able to give back to a community.
