Sad Whale, Baby

Gwar was the first concert I ever saw. I was 14. Ended up seeing them 5 more times over the years. Safe to say them and specifically Dave Brockie’s humor had a huge effect on me and mine. Though I didn’t know him personally, Dave was one of my absolute favorite people in the music biz or entertainment world. Always on. Always hilarious and creative in his output. He will be missed.

I can remember seeing them with you at least 3 of those times brother! We saw GWAR at the Newport in Columbus when X-Cops opened, which was mind (and ear) shattering.

I still have photos of Big Steve dressed in an actual Gwar costume. We attended a Motor City Comicon years ago where Gwar were roller skating around the convention beating their slaves and each other.

Steve gave them $10 or something to have his picture taken in Beefcake the Mighty’s duds. It was pretty fantastic.

I believe I also have a photo from the same trip of Steve turning down a hooker’s proposition.

I still have the the GWAR Polaroid, it makes a fine online avatar. You also snapped pictures of GWAR members chatting with Marine recruiters which was good for many laughs.

I recall no hookers, just “bad girl” booth girls hawking overpriced photos.

Then there was getting hassled by border guards about locating the once elusive Cherry Pez before finding a hotel room. Priorities my good man.
